The Landing Ministry

Taking a Break

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence. Know him in all your paths, and He will keep your ways straight.” Proverbs 3:5 – 6

“There’s a season for everything and a time for every matter under the heavens: a time for giving birth and a time for dying, a time for planting and a time for uprooting what was planted, a time for killing and a time for healing, a time for tearing down and a time for building up” Ecclesiastes 3:1 – 3

There are seasons for all things in this life and times when those seasons can only be understood by God. We at the Landing have hit such a season. It is with heavy hearts that we must announce that our next meeting will not be before May. In our current season our leaders have been bombarded by multiple health issues, work conflicts, educational obligations and other issues and cannot sustain meeting in a manner that would bring the healing our teens need.

Continued meetings could harm the very ones we are trying to help and we love them too much to do so. We will be using this time to refresh, restore, recruit and rebuild both ourselves as individuals and as team.

Our hope and prayer is to return in May stronger and better able to serve the youth and community that we greatly love. We will still remain in contact with our current youth and encourage everyone to ask us any questions they would like in the interim. We invite you to pray with us and for us during this season of tearing down to build up. Blessings and grace to all, Your Landing servants.

Thanks,
Bernice

About The Landing

The Landing is a new ministry outreach program for students ages 12-18. It seeks to provide a safe place for teens to explore the issues in their lives. If they live in an environment in which there is any form of abuse, (substance abuse or otherwise), there will be trained leaders available to help them manage their situation and to encourage them to lean on Christ for hope and healing.

It is a 52-week program based on principles from the beatitudes found in Matthew. The curriculum guidelines are designed to hlep teens learn new coping skills. Through the process, teens will learn how to turn over hurts, habits, and hang-ups to Jesus so that they can find healing and victory with Christ.

Meeting Details

They will meet here at the church on Thursday evenings, beginning at 5:30 pm in the Youth Room just off the foyer of the MacWhorter Activity Center. Dinner will be provided. Afterward, there will be fellowship, worship, and lessons covered in small groups. This is open to the public and is free of charge. If you are dropping off your teen, they should be finished no later than 8:30 pm. If you have questions or need more information, you may contact Bernice George at 256-499-5193.

The Basis of the Landing

The Landing is an experience-based program where teens are encouraged to actively participate in lessons through writing, drawing, drama skits and answering recovery-focused questions. Lessons are based on Celebrate Recovery lessons that include topics such as denial, powelessness, forgiveness, spiritual inventory, and giving.

Goals

To encourage teens to change their hurts, habits and hang-ups into a celebration of all victories big and small

To develop accountability and encouragement partners so that they can lead a life with Christ first.
