Circle of Friends
Circle of Friends is very much a heart circle, a small group of women who meet in study of God''s Word, to mentor, support, encourage, and love one another in our Christian journey. As a group, we take turns meeting in each other's homes the third Saturday of each month from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. where we share brunch and a study lesson, whether it be a Christian Life book, such as the one we are reading now called "Captivating: Unveiling The Mystery of a Woman''s Soul by John and Stasi Eldredge, a book of the Bible, or planning service projects such as the two very successful women''s retreats that we have sponsored and organized for the women of our church and community. Upcoming projects include a third annual women's retreat and an attempt to launch a church sponsored mentoring program for women with the help of Bill and Melisa.
If anyone is interested in attending one of our meetings or speaking to someone in more detail about what our mission is, then they may contact either Robyn Davis (435-1093) or Pat Borstorff (782-5748 office and 256 494-1116 home. also my email can be used pborstor@jsu.edu.) It is not important that each meeting be attended as we are all women with families and busy schedules and it is impossible to attend each time. However, we do have a covenant that we make with each other as part of Circle of Friends:
Circle of Friends
Creed, Covenant and Principles
Creed: Whenever we meet together in the name of Christ, we watch over one another in love, fully aware that the Spirit of God is present to empower us for our walk with Christ. For the Christian journey is not solitary exercise, and there are trustworthy companions along the way.
Covenant: We celebrate God's bringing us together by grace and mercy through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, by whom we are called to be good stewards of the gospel. Whenever we meet as a group or individuals, we provide a place where we can share our spiritual journey with one another and encourage one another in faith. We acknowledge that our journey is sometimes difficult during both discovery and navigation. Therefore, we covenant together to hold sacred personal truths we share about ourselves, our lives, and our tribulations as we seek to grow spiritually as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
Principles for Bible Study:
1. The Word of God is Jesus Christ, and the words of the Bible tell us about that Word. Therefore, when we study the words of the Bible, we always look behind, in, and through those words for God's Word - Jesus Christ.
2. No Christian has a monopoly on understanding either God's Word or the words of the Scripture. This includes biblical scholars and the most unlearned Christian. All of us must listen to one another as we seek to understand the richness of God's gifts.
3. We must assume everyone has Christian integrity and not accuse one another of being unchristian, no matter how unusual are the opinions.
4. We must further assume that we will arrive at different understandings of portions of Scripture and that that will not disturb God as much as it will some of us.
5. Source material for the Bible was in Hebrew or Greek, languages few of us will know. Therefore, using a variety of English versions will enhance our understanding of the text.
6. While we accept our differences, we do not feel that those differences should be ignored or discounted.
7. Different biblical understandings can remain among us, but we can still be warm Christian friends. In fact, as we grow to better understand our differences, we can grow in our appreciation of one another.
2 Timothy 3:16-17: All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God's way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do.
